    Dr. Akana is a Board Certified Clinical Pharmacist that practices in a pharmacist-managed ambulatory care anticoagulation clinic. She established the anticoagulation clinic in 2013 to improve medication safety. Dr. Akana is also drug information specialist in the primary care setting, working with nurse practitioners and physicians to improve medication related outcomes. Dr. Akana taught pharmacology to student nurse practitioners for three years and currently teaches pharmacology to Nurse Practitioner Residents. Hawaii Pharmacist Association named her as the Young Distinguished Pharmacist of the Year in 2012 and recently honored her as Pharmacist of the Year in 2018.
